Smart Car-The Freescale Cup

The Freescale Cup is a global competition where student teams build, program, and race a model car around a track for speed. The fastest car to complete the track without derailing, wins. The development of this autonomous car requires:
·      Embedded software programming and basic circuit creation using Freescale parts included in the entry kit.
·      Participants to create motor control hardware and software to propel and steer their intelligent car.
·      Participants must also interface to a camera to navigate the car through the race course by following the guide line.

We participated in The Freescale Cup-2012. Here is the video of the preliminary round.

PCB printing using home made method

Forget about the high rates of PCB printing machines. Here is a simple technique to print your PCBs at home using easily available material. It's called Etching.

Material required:
  • Laser printer (use your friend's if you don't have one)
  • Copper-clad laminate/PCB board (Google to find the vendor call Just Dial and they will tell you where to get one from)
  • Electric Iron
  • Ferric Chloride solution as etchant (Google or call Just Dial)

Procedure:
  • Design the PCB layout on EAGLE(or any other PCB designing software)
  • Print it using a laser printer(remember to print a mirror image of the layout). We specifically use the laser printer as the laser ink repels ferric chloride. Thus the part of PCB board which is covered with laser ink is not removed by ferric chloride and the rest of the copper is etched.
From The Tech Sauce
  • Clean the surface of PCB board using sand paper to remove oxide layer or oil.
  • Use an electric iron to press the printed layout on the PCB board.
  • Put the board (with printed paper attached to it) in water for a few minutes. Rub the wet paper to remove it from the board.
  • Use acetone(nail polish remover) to clean the board properly.
From The Tech Sauce
  • Put the board in the ferric chloride solution. Leave it for a few minutes.

Thus, you have successfully printed your PCB at home.

4. Cut it into pieces and take out its brain

5. Throw away the waste, preserve the brain, use it elsewhere, you may wear it in a locket chain or gift it to Jayant on his birthday (wild idea suggested by my friend Karan)

Experience 3D without any equipment

Get ready to experience the cool 3D effect without the need of any equipment(such as 3D glasses).

Stereoscopy (also called stereoscopic or 3-D imaging) refers to a technique for creating or enhancing the illusion of depth in an image by presenting two offset images separately to the left and right eye of the viewer. Both of these 2-D offset images are then combined in the brain to give the perception of 3-D
depth.
This video will help you experience 3D effortlessly. Check it out...

Graphic Card buying Guide

Nvidia and AMD are the two big players in the Graphic card market. After going through their product specifications, I have come to the conclusion that the info is of no use for a buyer. A lot of tech magazines and websites test graphic cards and evaluate their performance. Some of them are:
Here is a piece of advice that will help you make the correct buying decision:

Step1: Go to your vendor and inquire about the cards available with him.
Step 2: Go to the sites mentioned above and check out the prices, features and performance scores of the cards.
Step 3: Get back to your vendor and get your mighty weapon.
