To show hidden files and folders, follow these steps:
Open any folder (like My Computer) >> click on 'Organise' on the top left corner of the window >> click on 'folder and search options' >> go to 'view' tab >> check on 'show hidden files...'
You can also unhide protected system files by unchecking the 'Hide protected system files...' option
For Windows XP, click on Tools menu>>Folder options>>click on View tab>>check the 'Show hidden files and folders' option. Also, uncheck the 'Hide protected system files' option.
I recommend to check the 'Hide protected system files' option, after your purpose has been accomplished.
